Finca “El Guadual”

In Chulumani, Bolivia, the farm El Guadual has become a pioneer in biogas production. Led by Don Julio and his family, the project began with a vision to explore new applications and create a more efficient design for sustainable energy.

Looking ahead, through a partnership between Circle of Beans, Jiwasa, and Gaasbeek, we aim to build on this foundation. Together, our goal is to refine the digester design and explore new applications—most notably, using biogas to power a coffee dryer. While this step is not yet implemented, it represents an exciting direction for combining sustainable energy with coffee production.

Beyond this, we envision expanding the technology to other farms, and eventually to processing plants and roasteries. By doing so, biogas could become a key element of a more sustainable coffee value chain—reducing reliance on fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emmisions from organic material created during the whole process and strengthening the connection between clean energy and agriculture.
